General Information
Q: Is the BS Midwifery or BS Nursing program FREE at PSU?
A: NO, the two programs are only partially subsidized by the Free Higher Education Program of the government. The tuition fee is FREE, but the RLE and Affiliation fees are NOT.
Q: How long is the BS Midwifery at PSU?
A: A 4-year BS in Midwifery and a 2-year BS in Midwifery.
Q: What is the difference between a 4-year BS Midwifery and a 2-year BS Midwifery?
A: A 4-year BS Midwifery only accepts Grade 12 graduates, while a 2-year BS Midwifery only accepts a registered midwife who is a graduate of the 2-year Diploma in Midwifery.
Q: Do you accept shifters/transferees in the BS Midwifery or BS Nursing program?
A: YES, provided the applicant meets the set criteria and there is an available slot.
Q: What are the set criteria for shifters/transferees?
A: The set criteria for shifters/transferees are the same as those of a first-year applicant: passing the required examinations, no failing grades in their previous program, and no derogatory records. For a shifter, their previous admission examination is the basis for their admission to the programs of CNHS, they are not allowed to retake the PSU admission test.
Affiliation Fee
Q: What is an Affiliation fee?
A: Affiliation fee is collected from students and is used to pay for the affiliation of students to hospitals and other clinical areas. The affiliation fee of OLD students (Batch 2028 and below) is P1,000/semester, while for new students (Batch 2029 onwards) is P2,000/semester.
Q: When is an affiliation fee collected?
A: Affiliation fee is collected starting in the 2nd year when the students start with their clinical duty.
Related Learning Experience Fee
Q: What is an RLE fee?
A: RLE Fee or Related Learning Experience Fee is a school fee collected from students. It is used to fund the salaries of the clinical instructors who are on Contract of Service employment in PSU. It is also used to fund all RLE-related activities, facilities improvement, and professional advancement of the clinical instructors.
Q: How much is the RLE fee?
A: RLE fee for old students (Batch 2028 and below) is P1,600/RLE unit, while for new students (Batch 2029 onwards) is P2,200 per unit.
Q: Is the new RLE fee rate approved by the PSU Board of Regents?
A: Yes. The new RLE fee rate was approved by the PSU BOR by virtue of BOR Res. No. 6, series 2025, during the 248th PSU BOR Meeting on January 23, 2025.
Q: When is the RLE fee collected?
A: RLE fee is collected starting in the 2nd semester of Level 1 when the students have their RLE course.
Leave of Absence
Q: What is a leave of absence (LOA)?
A: A leave of absence is a privilege given to students who want to take a break from their studies.
Q: What is the allowed duration of a leave of absence (LOA)?
A: LOA duration is one (1) semester to two (2) semesters maximum. If the maximum duration of LOA is reached, the student cannot apply for another.
Q: Is LOA automatic?
A: No, a student must apply for LOA at the Dean's Office by filling out a form.
Q: What is the purpose of LOA?
A: LOA allows the student to take a leave without having to worry about their years of residency and will not take the re-admission process upon their return to study again.
Q: What is the effect of an approved LOA on my residency?
A: If a student takes an approved leave of absence, the number of years of residency will not be deducted by the number of semesters approved in the LOA
Q: What is the effect of an approved LOA on my readmission?
A: A student with an approved LOA will not be required to take the admission process once he/she returns to study. On the other hand, if a student went on a leave of absence without approval, he/she will be required to take the admission process similar to that of a new student.
Q: What is the limitation of an approved LOA on my residency?
One limitation of LOA to a student's residency is when the curriculum he/she previously enrolled in is no longer offered upon his/her return. The student will enroll in the new program curriculum, which may require him/her to return to first year without having to undergo the admission process.
Residency
Q: What is a residency?
A: A residency is the number of years a student is allowed to complete a program at PSU.
Q: What is the maximum years of residency for the BS Midwifery (2 years-bridging program), BS Midwifery (4 years), and BS Nursing?
A: The maximum years of residency for the BS Midwifery (2 years-bridging program) is three (3) years, BS Midwifery (4 years) and BS Nursing are both six (6) years.
Q: How is residency affected by an unapproved leave of absence?
A: The number of years of unapproved leave of absence will be deducted from the maximum residency of the program. If the remaining number of years of residency is less than the number of years to complete the program, the student will not be accepted for re-admission and will be advised to shift to another program or transfer to another school.
Example 1: A 3rd-year nursing student went on a 3-year leave of absence (ULOA) without prior approval by the Dean. He will be a 4th-year student upon his return. Will the student be accepted when he returns to study nursing?
ANSWER: NO, 3 years ULOA + 3 years BSN =6 years; The student reached the 6-year maximum to complete the program
Example 1: A 2nd-year nursing student went on a 2-year leave of absence (ULOA) without prior approval by the Dean. He will be a 3rd-year student upon his return. Will the student be accepted when he returns to study nursing?
ANSWER: YES, 2 years ULOA + 2 years BSN =4 years; The student has 2 years before reaching the 6-year maximum to complete the program
