Calling All Volunteers! Join the FTC Malaysia Championship 23/24 Team! We need your enthusiasm and dedication to ensure the upcoming event in Penang is a resounding success! Become a valuable part of our volunteer team and be part of an exhilarating and inspiring experience that will leave a lasting impact.
Competition Area Volunteers are the heartbeat of the competition arena, ensuring the matches run smoothly and fairly. This dynamic team is responsible for accurately recording match scores, overseeing match gameplay, ensuring rules are followed, and swiftly preparing the field for the next round. Together, they create an atmosphere of competitiveness and fairness, ensuring every team has an equal opportunity to showcase their skills in the competition area.
Referees have two main role distinctions; observing matches to call penalties and tracking the status of the match score. Three referees will be assigned to each field. There will be two referees responsible for tracking and calling penalties as they occur during the match. The other two referees track the score for either the red or the blue alliance. After completion of the match, the referees will work together to finalize the score and account for any penalties assessed during the match.

Judging Volunteers play a crucial role in recognizing and rewarding outstanding teams. They conduct in-depth interviews, assess team presentations, and evaluate robots based on innovation, engineering excellence, and community outreach efforts. These volunteers have a keen eye for detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to understand and appreciate the diverse efforts of participating teams. Their judgment and fairness are vital in ensuring that deserving teams receive the recognition they deserve.
The primary role of a judge is to interview teams and to decide which teams will receive an award based on team interviews, the robot, match play, and the engineering portfolio. Judges are paired in groups of 2-3 and interview a set number of teams before the competition begins as well as conduct interviews in the pit area.

Their role is to watch the teams who best display Gracious Professionalism®, the action on the field, and collect data on the quality of the robot's performance in the competition.

Pit Area Volunteers are the friendly faces teams turn to for help and support. They assist teams in setting up their pit areas, troubleshoot technical issues, and offer guidance on various aspects of the competition. These volunteers often act as liaisons between teams and event organizers, ensuring that teams have everything they need to perform their best. These volunteers also manage match logistics, including robot inspections, match timing, and ensuring teams are ready for their rounds. Excellent interpersonal skills, technical knowledge, and a passion for nurturing young talents are essential for this role.
Robot Inspectors perform mandatory Robot Inspections to ensure compliance with robot construction rules. Robot inspectors are responsible for ensuring every robot follows the guidelines outlined in FIRST Tech Challenge Game Manual Part 1 and is ready to compete on the field. The inspection process involves filling out a checklist for every robot and placing a label or other unique tag on the robot after it passes inspection.
