On this page, we provide you with essential information and resources for constructing your FTC robot. The construction of the FTC robot primarily revolves around the REV Control Hub, which serves as the core component of the robot. On this page, we will guide you through the necessary steps and techniques involved in building your robot using the REV Control Hub.
The Basic ‘Bot Guide was also created as a resource for teams looking for a step-by-step instructional guide to learn how to build a basic chassis and structure. Please note that this page will be regularly updated with additional building techniques, tips, and tricks, so be sure to check back frequently for the latest information.
To ensure a successful build, we will not only provide detailed instructions but also offer key takeaways from previous seasons. These takeaways highlight common challenges and provide valuable insights to help you avoid common pitfalls during the construction process.
Designing and building of team's robot in competing for FTC Malaysia can be built in any form, but it must adhere to the following criteria:
Robot size constructed MUST not be bigger than 18 inches (45.72 cm) wide by 18 inches (45.72 cm) long by 18 inches (45.72 cm) high before the match (during idle state) but may expand after the match starts.
Teams are PROHIBITED to borrow OR carry forward any additional REV Robotics parts from other teams and loaned during the previous season respectively as compared to the list provided regarding the FTC Starter Kit Base Set for the robot building purposes to gain any distinctive advantage
Actions carried out by teams will be categorized as a violation of the FIRST concept, Gracious Professionalism, and will not be eligible for any awards or prizes listed
Components in which teams used their Petty Cash in purchasing it are subjected to an exemption
Teams will be required to fully disassemble the previous robot built, and conduct Rekitting Inspection based on the checklist which was provided
Items that were worn out or damaged shall be indicated in the checklist, in which replacement parts will be given after processing
Do not MIX/CONSOLIDATE different parts of the REV Robotics items together, but consolidate them accordingly.
TEAMS ARE PROHIBITED TO MAKE ANY PERMANENT CHANGES TO THE PARTS LOANED TO TEAMS in the REV Robotics FTC Starter Kit V3
Make sure your Robot is ready for Competition Day!
Complete robot construction instructions for Basic & Starter Bot were provided by REV Robotics.
However, students are advised to use their own imagination and creativity in enhancing the robot's functionality and appearance in completing the challenges given based on the theme, with the usage of daily objects and engineering concepts application.
Fabrication and usage of designed parts via 3D modeling/prototyping, and 3D printing are highly encouraged.
Different design software such as Blender, Autodesk Fusion 360, Inventor, and Pro E are examples of software that could be used.
Teams are advised to split and assign the load of robot building among team members equally according to team members' specialization, in avoiding burnout and overload of work.
The building Phase of FTC Malaysia will be from July 2023 to January 2024.
For returning teams from the previous FTC Season 2023/2024 - CENTERSTAGE, teams will be using the same identical set which was used for competition. However, we understand that there will be wear, and tear from last year's competition, and perhaps some damaged or destroyed parts, hence we had prepared the REV Robotics FTC Competition Set Re-kitting Checklist, which each team's team leader MUST submit to FTC Malaysia core team member the filled checklist, regarding the items/parts of the REV Robotics kit loaned to school within 2 weeks of the Meet & Greet session
For parts that were damaged or destroyed, and require replacement, please indicate at the end of the list, with photo evidence of the parts damaged, which we will replace for the team as soon as possible

For teams who decided not to continue joining FTC Season 2024/2025 - INTO THE DEEP, please perform a parts inspection checklist, then fill up the list, and return to us with the checklist in the nearest time being
For teams who are joining for the first time for FTC Season 2024/2025 - INTO THE DEEP, parts inspection, and count check will be performed by our team during the handover. But for fairness purposes, please also complete the parts inspection checklist by filling up the form, and then submit it to FTC Malaysia core team member within 2 weeks after the Meet & Greet session

FIRST® Tech Challenge is an advanced robotics competition, which it uses robotics components, technologies, and equipment that are far more advanced compared to any other robotics competition in Malaysia. Robotics sets that were used for this FTC competition will be based on REV Robotics FTC Starter Kit V3, which was a part of the FTC legal items.
One (1) set of REV Robotics FTC Starter Kit V3 will be loaned to participating teams, whereas teams can opt to prototype/build any additional parts/sections on the robot built, in enhancing its functionality and performance during competition as required by the team based on this season game-play.
Additionally, Petty Cash amounting to RM500 is applicable to be requested by each participating team, which shall be used for the additional parts needed for robot activities. For more information regarding the steps and procedures for Petty Cash application methods and claiming procedures, please head over to Petty Cash & Procedures webpage on this website.
