ABOUT THE PROGRAM
What is the Global Studies Diploma Program (GSD)?
The Global Studies Diploma can be earned in addition to the Providence Day School diploma. Students choose a curriculum and a set of experiences to develop into successful and responsible global citizens. Students will gain the knowledge, skills, and character dispositions to understand global systems, collaborate and communicate cross-culturally, and advocate solutions to global challenges.
How many people have graduated from PD with a GSD?
2005 had the first graduating class of 5 GSD students. Since then more than 325 students have graduated with the diploma.
GSD AND YOU
Why should I join the GSD program?
Joining the Global Studies Diploma program offers an opportunity to broaden your perspective, cultivate global awareness, and develop essential skills for an interconnected world. The GSD program provides students an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of diverse cultures, languages, and global issues, while fostering empathy and a commitment to making a positive impact. The GSD program equips students with the knowledge, skills, and character dispositions needed to thrive in college, future careers, and as a responsible global citizen.
What is the time commitment?
The time dedicated to GSD depends on the individual student. There is a wide range of student involvement ranging from meeting the basic programmatic requirements to earning the distinction of Global Ambassador. This is a self-directed program, so the amount of time spent will vary. Some students who spend only an average of an hour per month, and those that take leadership positions, or attend multiple events dedicate more time to their global pursuits.
I'm not in 9th grade. Can I still join GSD?
While students typically begin their GSD journey in 9th grade, students can join later in Upper School under certain circumstances. Email kelsey.knutson@providenceday.org to talk about your options.
