— HOW DO I—
Meet My Curricular Requirements?
The Global Studies Diploma inspires you to take academic courses in order to foster a global mindset. These classes will help you develop the foundations that are necessary to understand the world.
The elective options allow you to explore global studies in a variety of disciplines, including Science, Physical Education, and the Arts, and the Humanities.
Carefully mapping out a curriculum plan is essential to ensure that you meet both the Providence Day and Global Studies graduation requirements. Here are three sample plans – one if you're an arts student, one if you want to take AP Sciences, and one if you're just not sure yet – that would allow you to take the classes that you want while also graduating with the diploma.
Here is a sample schedule if you want to take Arts courses all four years of Upper School. This could include performing arts (band, orchestra, chorus, theatre) or visual arts.
Note: You can choose whether to take either the AP/Accelerated or regular versions of the History and Science courses. Both fulfill the requirements for the PD diploma.
Here is a sample schedule if you wanted to take multiple years of AP Science. You would be able to do two AP science courses (or three if you chose to do AP Environmental Science – also a GSD credit – instead of a history elective).
Note: AP Chem, AP Physics, & AP Chemistry meet for double periods.
If you're not exactly sure what you want classes you want to take, no worries! Here's a base plan that includes all the requirements and leaves room for you to customize. We recommend doing your course planning in pencil as your interests and course selections can shift over the years. You can always make adjustments as you discover your passions and interests throughout Upper School.
