Zero Credit Courses

Student Helper

Credit: 0 units per year/semester

Weight: No weight

Open to: Grade 12

Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.

Students have the option to be a helper for either one semester or both semesters of their senior year.

Students have the opportunity to receive permission from faculty members to serve as aides in various capacities provided that the student's grades, attendance, and discipline records are positive. Students work under the supervision of the faculty member doing such tasks as setting up labs, aiding students in a class, copying materials for faculty, serving as aides in the various school offices, and doing other tasks that are of assistance to the faculty members. There is also a need for students to be helpers in the area of technology by problem solving computer issues under staff supervision.

Credit is not earned for this class. Students need to be aware that participation as a helper could impact the necessary credits needed for graduation.

How it works:

Seniors will sign up for 8 courses and two alternates. The student will be added to a "Helper List" and will be matched up with teachers desiring helpers. If a student is assigned to a teacher, the student will then be asked to delete a course from the original request. If there are too many students desiring to be helpers or if the student does not qualify for the position, the student will be assigned to their original course request.

Helper grades are not included in the calculation of their GPA and class rank. Students who enroll as a helper do not receive credit towards graduation. Students will be limited to two semesters as a helper during their high school enrollment. A helper period will be assigned to seniors only.
