Students will be introduced to the practices and procedures of accounting for sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations. Hands-on techniques through the use of electronic spreadsheets and a computerized accounting program help students apply the principles of the accounting cycle to a variety of business settings. Emphasis is placed on the analysis of financial transactions, the use of journals and ledgers, and the development and completion of financial statements. The course also introduces methods for calculating depreciation, inventory levels, interest, and taxes by investigating realistic problems and situations.

Accounting II

Accounting II is a course that builds upon the foundation established in Accounting I. This course is planned to help students to develop deeper knowledge of the principles of accounting with more emphasis being placed on financial statements and accounting records. It is a study of previously learned principles as they apply to the more complicated types of business organizations: partnerships, corporations, branches, etc. The students may become familiar with such specialized fields of accounting as cost accounting, tax accounting, payroll accounting, and others. Some students may choose to do specialized accounting computer applications, and others may elect payroll clerk, data processing computer applications. Simulated business conditions may be provided through the use of practice sets. Skills are developed in the entry, retrieval, and statistical analysis of business data using computers for accounting business applications. 

Business Management & Entrepreneurship

Business Management & Entrepreneurship is a course that combines the macro-level study of the business world, including business structure and finance, with the daily rights and responsibilities of business ownership, operations, financial planning, and communication. This course is designed to provide students with opportunities to solve problems and make decisions related to successfully operating a business or creating a business plan. 

Sports Media, Marketing, & Broadcasting

Sports and Entertainment Marketing is a specialized marketing course that develops student understanding of the sport/event industries, their economic impact, and their place in local community cooperation; students will learn about products, distribution systems and strategies, pricing considerations; product/service management, and promotion.  Students will gain “real world” experience in project-based learning, including working to earn sponsorships, promoting local events and working with local businesses. Throughout the course, students are presented problem-solving situations for which they must apply academic and critical-thinking skills. Through several projects, students will have the opportunity to apply newly acquired marketing skills in the workplace. In addition, modern broadcasting and multimedia platforms will be opportunities for students to pursue, including broadcasting high school sporting events, creating highlights, and using multimedia platforms to promote PPHS teams and events. This course requires students to be very engaged, very active, and will require students to do a great deal of project work outside of the school day.
