EVERY STUDENT

EVERY EFFORT

EVERY DAY

The course descriptions contained in this curriculum guide provide students and parents with a brief description of courses that are available at Pleasant Plains High School.

As education prepares our young people for tomorrow's world, changes are certainties, so expect them. We will help keep students and parents informed about curriculum changes as they occur. Make use of as many resources for planning as possible. Young people can be best prepared for the future if parents, students, and educators work together.

The high school semester grade is important as it is this grade that is entered upon the permanent school record. The semester grade is determined by taking the average of the semester grade and the semester exam. The semester grade counts ⅘ (80%) of the semester grade and the semester exam counts ⅕ (20%).

The grading scale is as follows:

A:  89.5% - 100%

B:  79.5% - 89.49%

C:  69.5% - 79.49%

D:  59.5% - 69.49%

F:  59.49% and below

For the purpose of grade point average, point values are given to letter grades

Letter Grade 4 Weight Course

A 4 points

B 3 points

C 2 points

D 1 point

F 0 points

Letter Grade 5 Weight Course

A 5 points

B 4 points

C 3 points

D 2 points

F 0 points

* Failing grade receive no points regardless of weight

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The courses listed in this course description guide are tentative offerings. After students have completed their course requests for next school year, final decisions will be made by the administration as to which courses will definitely be offered.

It is extremely important that students and parents make the most accurate requests possible, since the number of students who request specific classes will have a very significant impact on which classes are actually offered. Students MUST request TWO ALTERNATIVE courses in the event that their original requests are not offered.

NON-TRADITIONAL LEARNING

No more than four credits may be transferred in and accepted for work done by correspondence, credit recovery, online, night, summer, and/or college level courses.

The non-traditional course cannot be used to replace a required course needed for graduation unless the student has previously failed that course and is seeking credit recovery.

(see Student Handbook for the complete Non-Traditional Learning Opportunity Policy)

SPECIAL EDUCATION

Special education students may be exempt from any individual requirement, as outlined in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) for that student.

Step Program (Special Education Work Study)

Students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP) are eligible for the work study STEP program.  Contact the Special Education Department for more information.

SPECIFIC COURSE DETAILS

LLCC College NOW Program (Early Graduation)

College NOW will provide a college level experience to high school seniors allowing them to earn dual credit, and develop the necessary readiness and skills for continued postsecondary academic success.  Senior students must complete their high school graduation requirements by December of their senior year to be eligible for this program. The students will then be dually enrolled at Lincoln Land Community College and Pleasant Plains High School. More information is available in the high school counseling office.

Sangamon CEO Class (LLCC Dual Credit)

Students will meet every day from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in a variety of different business settings throughout the community. One high school credit per semester will be earned. Your instructors will be some of the best and brightest business minds in our area. See Alternative Education for additional information about Sangamon CEO.

Student Helper

Helper grades are not included in the calculation of GPA and class rank. Students who enroll as a helper do not receive credit towards graduation. Students will be limited to two semesters as a helper. A helper period will be assigned to seniors only. See Zero Credit Courses for additional information about zero credit courses.
