Mathematics
There are numerous paths that a student may take to advance through PPHS math courses. Students may only take one math course per year unless there is consent from a PPHS math instructor to take an additional course simultaneously. It is expected that students will enroll in the standard math classes. If there is a need for a student to be placed in a slower paced Algebra, Geometry, or Algebra 2 class, this may only occur with teacher permission. Math classes paced at a slower pace for student success are not electives.
Pre-Algebra
Credit: One unit per year
Weight: 4/4
Open To: Grade 9, 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation
Next Course in Mathematics sequence: Algebra 141 or Algebra 131
Pre-Algebra courses increase students' foundational mathematics skills and prepare them for Algebra I by covering a variety of topics, such as operations with integers; expressions, equations, and inequalities; ratio, proportion, and percent; linear functions and graphing; powers and nonlinear functions; right triangles; distance; angles; surface area and volume; and probability and statistics.
