Welcome to A-level ICT
Periodically as technology and software changes it is important for organisations to update their network. There are a number of network configurations that could be considered.
A mesh network (or simply meshnet) is a local network topology in which the infrastructure nodes (i.e. bridges, switches, and other infrastructure devices) connect directly, dynamically and non-hierarchically to as many other nodes as possible and cooperate with one another to efficiently route data from/to clients.
Fault tolerant – if one of the cables/routes fails, then the other computers can still be used.
Easy to add extra computers – extra computers can be added without disturbing the network.
Data can be transmitted from different devices simultaneously, Can withstand high traffic
Reduces dead spots – improves coverage
Can give faster streaming speeds than conventional single routers
Can be used to propagate a wireless network
There are high chances of redundancy in many of the network connections
Overall cost of the network is high compared to other networks
Set-up and maintenance of this topology is very difficult.
Harder to administer the network.
