Uploading Media

This page explains how to upload video files using the Create button on the Panopto website. (The other way to upload files to your library is to use the Select content button within the Moodle Integration. Further explanation of that approach can be found on the Panopto in Moodle page.) Once uploaded, the video becomes a Panopto video which means the user can edit, caption and use the analytics just they would with any recording using the Panopto software.

A prerequisite for uploading media is Creator (Lecturer) access. Students can be given the ability to do this for assignment or course purposes, but this will have to be specifically provisioned in advance. Contact your Faculty Online Course Developers or elearn@port.ac.uk if you want to explore this option further.

Upload Using the Create Button

Click All Folders or My Folders on the left-hand column and choose the Folder where the session will be created.

Click the Create option on the top panel after choosing your folder, then select Upload Media.

If you did not already choose your folder, you can do that here. Then drag and drop the video file(s) or click inside the box to select the file(s) from your computer.

You can drop multiple files into the video upload window at one time to create multiple sessions.

Wait for Uploading to finish. This may take some time, depending on the number and size of the files.

Note: factors such as bitrate, aspect ratio, file size, and video length have an impact on the time it takes for the video to process. For supported media file types, see Supported Media File Types for Uploading documentation below.

When processed, the session can be edited straight away. You can close the window once the file has finished uploading. When publishing is complete, you will be notified that the sessions are ready to view.
