Moodle's integration with Panopto makes it easier than ever to insert content directly into your Moodle site.
There are a few different ways to do this, but all have the same goal of making captured content accessible to the students on that particular site. To add Panopto videos into Moodle, you must have Lecturer access on the Moodle site you wish the video to appear on, as this synchronises with Panopto's Creator access. If you receive any messages regarding not having Creator access, please contact elearn@port.ac.uk to check this for you.
Inserting Panopto content into your Moodle site
1. Go to your chosen Moodle site and ensure it has a Panopto block attached. If you are unsure how to do this, please see the guide How to add the Panopto Block for synchronisation, or contact eLearn or your Faculty Online Course Developers.
2. Ensure editing is on and click + Add an activity or resource within a topic. Choose the Panopto Video activity and then in the next window click the Select content button.
This opens up the Panopto file system. You are given 3 choices:
Choose a media item that you have saved previously within Panopto.
Upload content from your computer via a drag-and-drop window.
Record directly into the activity.
If prompted to log back in again within the window, please do so. This is just Panopto verifying your identity and your access level. If there are any problems, please don't hesitate to let us know elearn@port.ac.uk
Recording directly into the Moodle activity
1. First give the recording a title. Panopto won’t let you record without a title. (You can change it at a later date, post recording, if necessary.)
2. Press the record button. This prompts the browser to open your installed Panopto Recorder. (If you do not have Panopto installed, there is a downloadable link on the screen. See Panopto Installed material for guidance on how to use the recorder.)
3. After recording, you do not have to wait for it to finish processing before pressing the insert button. (However, the recording will not be viewable until processing has finished.)
4. On pressing insert, your title will appear in Moodle and then you simply have to finalise the activity creation: click either Save and display or Save and return to course.
5. The video is saved as a link on the course and has a Panopto Icon next to it. Clicking on the link will take you to the video without leaving Moodle or the specific unit you are visiting.
