Glossary of Terminology

This glossary is intended to assist with the understanding of key terms and their meanings associated with preparing for a blended teaching approach at the University of Portsmouth.

Atto text editor

The text editor allows you to enter text into Moodle, it provides the usual controls you'd expect to see when entering text, like Bold, Underline, and various different heading styles. Moodle has two different text editors built in, the main one, (and default) is the Atto editor. It is likely that you use it every time you add text into Moodle. For further help using this please contact your faculty Online Course Developers.

Blended Learning

A style of education in which students learn via electronic and online media as well as traditional face-to-face teaching.

Flipped Delivery

A pedagogical approach in which the conventional notion of classroom-based learning is inverted: students are introduced to the learning material before class with classroom time then being used to deepen understanding through discussion with peers and problem-solving activities facilitated by teachers. (Advance HE, 2019).
