Comments: A subsidised bus service is set to change hands in North Devon after Filers Travel gave Devon County Council (DCC) notice it will cease operating the 301 service between Combe Martin, Ilfracombe, Muddiford and Barnstaple. Following a tender process, Stagecoach will take over the operation of the 301 service, subsidised by DCC, from Monday December 12.
"We also appreciate that Stagecoach have not had good press in relation to operating bus services over the last year. This was considered in the tender process, but the concerns were mitigated by Stagecoach’s recent rationalisation of services which significantly reduced their demand on driver resources. As a result of this, their Barnstaple depot is now fully staffed and was in a position to take on the work. We also understand that the Filers Travel drivers who worked on the 301 service have been offered employment with Stagecoach under TUPE Regulations.
"To enhance awareness of the rail link for the 301 service, GWR will be funding “Rail Link” style vinyl stickers (as used on the 310 service to Lynton) which will be displayed on the outside of the buses and key bus stops on the route. There will also be a bespoke timetable leaflet to further publicise the new route."
