2nd Grade students read On The Same Day in March by Marilyn Singer and used a legend on a map to code the weather for each location explored in the book.
After completing their map, they listened to a mindfulness activity and drew a "personal weather report" to show their mood.
Last fall, students investigated seeds. In this activity, students studied a chart to learn when to plant seeds inside and outside. For example, would you plant cilantro by starting the seedlings indoors or wait and plant outdoors? What dates are perfect for planting tomatoes or cucumbers in Indiana?
The final activity was folding and cutting newspaper to create a seed starter box. Students practiced the E-Skill perseverance to use instructions, a template, scissors, rulers, and paper clips to construct their seedbox.
Upon completion of their seed starter box, students were asked to hold their pot in their lap, take a few deep breaths, relax, and practice mindfulness as their teacher read "Planting A Seed" from the book Imaginations by Carolyn Clark.
