Students read Little Turtle and the Changing Sea by Becky Davis and discussed why we need to take care of our trash to take care of the oceans.
They reviewed which materials are trash versus recycling.
As a class, students shredded newspaper and their teacher blended it in a food processor. The paper mush was then pressed with a screen to make recycled paper to take back to their classroom.
Using Ozobots, students learned how to color code an algorithm to move their robot on a board.
They were then prompted to make a trash collector to protect the sea turtles and clean up the beach. Recycled materials were used to make their invention.
Students were asked to use Design Thinking skills to Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test their inventions! This was a highly creative activity and students enjoyed making their Ozobot into a trash collector machine.
