Project description: This is my final project in this class. We were instructed to apply what we have learned to solve a real-life problem using our Fusion 360, 3D printing, and laser-cutting skills.
Brainstorm: My problem was that everytime I did some schoolwork on my desk. The whole thing became a mess it was hard to organize all of my papers, folders, pen, and more. I decided to build something that could help organize my desk. This was my first design idea after brainstorming and searching up some ideas on the internet. I made the long storage area long enough to hold paper as that was always an issue for me when I put schoolwork on my desk.
Design: This was my design I created in fusion 360. I first created everything so that the bottom board would be the base and I would build the pieces on top of it and not connecting it on the edges. Then, I changed all the sides to be seperate bodies so I could laser cut each side without them overlapping each other and being to large.
These are all my pieces after laser cutting each piece out. I marked each piece with pencil to know which piece to put it.
This is how my design looked. I used wood glue to connect all the pieces and parts and tape to support the pieces while the glue set. Overall, I'm happy on how the design turned out and it could help me a lot to hold gadgets, pencils, or folders on my desk.
This is my desk usually with schoolwork without anything organizing it.
This is the after with most of my stuff stored and well organized
Reflections
Strength
My strength during this project was time management. I managed to finish everything pretty quickly and was able to laser cut and put together everything on my first try. The pieces all fit.
Opportunity
I think I could've maybe added more details to my design but overall I liked it as if it was with too many details I might have made a mistake and an organizer has to be flexible to store many things.
Understand
I learned how to lasercut really well this project. My previous laser cutting project was more focused on creating the desing in fusion 360 and I didn't really understand how to laser cut.
Limitation
A limitation in the project was probably waiting for others to finish witht the laser cutting. The wood glue also took thirty minutes to set and sometimes it would go apart and the tape holding it together might not be strong enough.
WISCR
-W I think I was well rounded throughout the project as I designed and created everything quickly in fusion 360. I understood how to laser cut the pieces so that they wouldn't overlap and the design was perfect on my first try.
-I I also think I was insightful in the project. I had a good understanding on project requirements quickly creating my first design and I chose laser cutting over 3d printing which a lot of others chose and is arguably easier. Like I said earlier, I learned from my previous laser cutting project on to not make some mistakes I did before and was able to get the design good on my first try.
