Project Description: In this project, we used Fusion 360 to create a personalized soap piece for a person we would give during Valentines. The project dimensions were supposed to be 2-3" in. of diameter and 1-1.5" in. of height. The design would include an image and a catchphrase that is personalized for your person.
Brainstorm: This is my first brainstorm and sketch on how my project would look like. I did something about skiing for my person, and I used the catchphrase: Shall we ski-daddle. I then put a sketch drawing on my soap in the middle.
Procedure: This was the first design I cadded out in Fusion 360. When 3d printing it, I changed the height to 0.2 inches as it would be quicker and waste less filament. It looked good until I realized that I mispelled the word ski-daddle. I will also slightly increase the size of my text and change the spacing slightly for my design.
First Print: This is my first design once 3d printed. For my design, I need to correct the spelling of the word ski-daddle, and extrude it closer to the skier.
Fusion 360 Design: This is my fixed design for Fusion 360. I corrected the spelling of ski-daddle and made the skier bigger. I then moved the text to fix the new size of the skier. I also extruded part of the skis to make it look like the skis are separate.
Second Print: This is my second print in which everything looked good. Now, I'm gonna print my final build with the correct height of 1-1.5" inches.
Final Fusion 360 Design: This is the final design made in fusion 360 with the correct height.
Final Print: This is my final print. The design of the skier looked incredibly clean and I really liked my catchphrase. All the measurements fit correctly with a height above 1 inch and a width of 3 inches.
This is my design encased in the silicone mold.
Silicone Mold: My mold turned out really well and the details came out perfectly. However there was just one small hole on the mold that I needed to patch up.
The top of my mold patched up
Soap Mold: This is my mold filled with hot liquid soap and food coloring. I chose a lavender scent for it and need to wait for it to cool.
Final Design: This is my final project. I liked how it turned out except for the small problem that some of the text didn't come out fully. Other than that everything like the skier was fully formed perfectly with you being able to tell the difference between the two skis
Reflections
Strength
My strength during this project was time management. I managed to finish everything pretty quickly and was able to 3d print many designs and put together everything quickly.
Opportunity
I think I could've maybe added more details to my design but overall I liked it as the print wouldn't have turned out well if it had too many things on it. I somewhat liked the simplicity and at the end it turned out really well.
Understand
I learned to not rely on color in 3d prints but the texture of the print through different heights.
Limitation
A limitation in the project was probably waiting for others to finish with their 3d printing as I sometimes had nothing to do because I finished my portfolio already.
WISCR
-W I think I was well rounded throughout the project as I designed and created everything quickly in fusion 360. I understood how to 3d print and made no mistakes.
-I I also think I was insightful in the project. I had a good understanding on project requirements quickly creating my first design. Because of my previous experience from 3d printing, I understood how to print and cad everything quickly to perfect my design from each prototype I make.
