The Self-Advocacy course is one of the most important courses to begin with as students are entering adulthood. By learning more about their disabilities, available resources, and laws & regulations, students gain empowerment over their decision-making abilities and knowledge about their needs. In this course, students learn about the entire IEP process, the transition planning process, and laws relating to the Americans with Disabilities Act. They also learn about disclosing their disability to a prospective employer and/or education institution, requesting accommodations, and how goal-setting helps outline their future plans.
