THE BAND
T-RIOT is, first and foremost, a reunion of three friends and musicians who, after years of individual "sonic wanderings," decided to return to their roots. While Jazz is the foundation, their sound is enriched by years of immersion in Funk, Pop, Reggae, and Electronics. The trio serves as a crossroads where the tradition of Blues and Jazz spontaneously embraces every artistic influence they have encountered.
They are a "rebellious" trio—not just in relation to the classic piano trio formula (referencing masters like Ahmad Jamal or Keith Jarrett), but also against those contemporary trends that drift too far from the genre's warmest, most liberating, and engaging characteristics.
T-RIOT focuses on the essentials: Groove and Blues (presented in both sophisticated and raw forms), combined with the spiritual openness of the great pioneers. The band joyfully balances research and tradition, exploring a personal "third way" between the past and future of Black Music. Their album "A Different Truth" is an ethical and aesthetic invitation to never cease the dialectic of imagination and research.
THE ALBUM
Recorded entirely live in just a day and a half in May 2016, this debut album was born from the band's residency at a jazz club in Taranto (ancient Magna Grecia). Encouraged by their local audience, the musicians decided to capture the freshness and positive energy of those months on record.
Tracklist (Project Notes):
Desert Highway (P. Vincenti): The trio's signature live opener, structured over many nights to evoke a serene journey through wide-open spaces.
Willow Weep For Me (A. Ronell): A beautiful standard by Ann Ronell. We choose to celebrate her genius, ignoring the old gossip that claimed Gershwin wrote it for her.
St. Petersburg Train (P. Vincenti): A mystical trip featuring subtle nods to Gershwin and Coltrane, imagining the Gershowitz family’s journey from Russia to the New World.
Sad Devil (P. Vincenti): Built on the "tritone" interval (Diabolus in Musica), this melody speaks of the melancholy of a devil destined to do evil.
Sign O' The Times (Prince): Recorded spontaneously following the passing of the "Purple One." Its funk bite and lyrics remain strikingly relevant.
Stay With Me (Sam Smith): What started as a jam session joke turned into a soul/gospel gem, proving that simple structures can hold deep emotional power.
Pharaoh of Love (P. Vincenti): A spiritual tribute to Pharoah Sanders and his universal message of peace and love.
Libra (G. Bartz): A sophisticated Coltrane-esque legacy piece by Gary Bartz, featuring an intriguing rhythmic structure.
I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free (B. Taylor): A civil rights anthem. Freedom is never given; it is a hope to be conquered daily against all forms of exploitation.
The Long Goodbye (P. Vincenti): Born from an end-of-show improvisation, this "Andalusian cadence" became the trio's definitive closing theme.

T-Riot (Pietro Vincenti/Camillo Pace/Francesco Lom —Different Truth ... CD --- Albore Jazz (Japan), 2017. New Copy ...
A rock-solid trio session, with a top-shelf Italian groove pedigree – as the group features two members from Berardi Jazz Connection, and the pianist from Quintetto X! You might remember those two groups from their more club jazz-oriented projects from the previous decade or two – but this time around, all three musicians are in a straighter jazz vein – yet still one that's filled with plenty of rhythm! The piano, bass, and drums come together fantastically here – with Pietro Vincenti on acoustic keys, Camillo Pace on bass, and Francesco Lomagistro on drums – romping together through some great titles of their own, and a few really excellent remakes as well. And while the focus on rhythm is quiet strong, Vincenti gets off some especially great solo moments too – breaking from the bass and drums, while still holding their energy – in a way that almost seems inspired by classic Brazilian trios of the 60s. Titles include versions of Gary Bartz's "Libra", Billy Taylor's "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free", and Prince's "Sign Of The Times" – plus the originals "Pharoah Of Love", "Sad Devil", "Desert Highway", and "The Long Goodbye".
