Asa Clark Middle School's schedule varies by each grade level. For 8th grade, students have three academic core classes, two elective classes, a 30 minute lunch, as well as House Flex/Grad Pro & Pirate Resource each day. The core classes are around 66 minutes in length, and include the following classes:
Language Arts
Math
Social Studies/Science (alternate by semesters)
In addition to the core classes, all students have House Flex/Grad Pro that is 50 minutes in length and Pirate Resource which is identified by a 30 minute block of time in a student's schedule. The purpose of House Flex/Grad Pro & Pirate Resource is to engage students and staff in experiences that support each learner's academic, social, and emotional growth through positive relationship building.
The remainder of their classes are made up of elective offerings that are 50 minutes in length and occur on an A/B (alternating) day schedule. Most of our electives are semester courses, but a few are two semesters or year long classes. This is identified in the course description guide and the listing below of 8th grade elective offerings. Students have room in their schedule for six semester electives, and will have three each semester. Classes that are year long in length will take up two elective spots in a given year, or one elective spot each semester. This does not include a full year of Fitness & Health that will be included in a student's schedule.
If a student did not take Code to Create their 7th grade year, they are required to take it in 8th grade. In addition, while it is not required for 8th grade students to take a world language, it is strongly recommended they continue with the same world language they took their 7th grade year for the possibility to be recommended for level 2 when they enter the high school. For more information regarding the core and/or specific elective offerings at the 8th grade level, please visit the course description guide linked below.
