A career calculator designed to help students and parents understand the financial implications of their desired career path – from expected entry-level salaries and estimated college expenses to the length of time it will take to be debt-free following their educational investment.
Details on work ethic scholarships that are available to Pennsylvania students entering into the skilled trades. Thanks to generous donations from the Pennsylvania business community, the mikeroweWORKS Foundation in partnership with the Pennsylvania Chamber Educational Foundation has already awarded nearly $275,000 in work ethic scholarships to 112 Pennsylvania students. Career seminars offer invaluable opportunities for students to explore diverse professional paths and gain practical insights into the working world. These sessions, featuring guest speakers from various industries, provide firsthand accounts of career journeys, required skills, and educational pathways. By engaging with professionals, students can clarify their interests, discover potential career options they may not have considered, and begin to build a network. Ultimately, career seminars empower students to make informed decisions about their post-secondary plans and confidently pursue their aspirations.

On March 17th, 2025, we were thrilled to welcome representatives from Penn Medicine/Lancaster General Health and St. Joseph's University to discuss careers in healthcare. You can find a copy of their fantastic presentation HERE that outlines various career paths and ways to partner with them to further your education from certifications to advanced degrees.
They had representatives in the following professions:
Sterile Processing Technician: This role, requiring only a high school diploma and minimum age of 18, provides invaluable insight into surgical processes—perfect for students aspiring to surgical technology. Their work directly impacts patient health and safety, ensuring the availability of sterile instruments crucial for successful surgeries. Training is on the job, competitive starting hourly wage.
Physicians Associate/Physicians Assistant: Highly skilled healthcare professionals who provide a wide range of medical services. Under physician supervision, they diagnose and treat illnesses, prescribe medications, and deliver preventative care. Becoming a PA requires a bachelor's degree, master's degree, completion of certification and state licensure.
Patient Transport: Responsible for the safe and effective transfer of patients and equipment throughout the hospital, enabling access to critical services like surgery, testing, treatment, and more. A great option for students who are active and people-oriented. Requires a high school diploma.
Certified Medical Assistant: Assist healthcare professionals with clinical and administrative tasks: patient intakes, vitals, exams, basic medical accounting, and more. High school diploma and certification required.
Front Office Support: Ideal for students with excellent customer service and organizational skills. Responsible for greeting patients, scheduling appointments, validating insurance, and more. Requires a high school diploma.
Unit Clerk: Maintains the organization of the nurses' station, oversees unit activity, and provides essential clerical and receptionist support. High school diploma required, competitive starting hourly wage.
St. Joseph's also spoke about their majors. Beyond nursing programs, they highlighted these less-known roles in healthcare:
Nuclear Medicine: Nuclear Medicine Technologists conduct diagnostic scans using nuclear substances, administered through injection or ingestion, to track bodily functions. This career offers growth potential, beginning with an associate's degree and progressing to bachelor's and advanced degrees, with corresponding salary increases.
Vascular Sonography, Cardiac Sonography, Diagnostic Sonography: Specialized fields within ultrasound technology. While many high school students are familiar with ultrasound technicians, it's important to understand that this technology is applied across numerous body systems, not just in obstetrics.
Respiratory Technology: A field encompassing careers that involve the application of specialized technology for the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of respiratory conditions and lung function.
Surgical Technology: Essential careers within the operating room, providing critical support to surgeons and surgical nurses during procedures.
