"Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a set of principles for curriculum development that gives all individuals equal opportunities to learn, including students with disabilities. UDL aims to improve the educational experience of all students by introducing more flexible methods of teaching, assessment and service provision to cater for the diversity of learners in our classrooms".

Blended learning can help teachers to implement many of the principles of UDL more effectively and more manageably. Consider UDL and blended learning as complementary ideas which overlap. Teachers can use the time, space, and flexibility afforded by blended learning to increase pupil engagement by teaching self-regulation skills, prioritising pupil agency, fostering communication and collaboration.
