Enriched Virtual Model

Learners explore topics in the classroom or at home at their own pace. The face-to-face sessions in the classroom can be used to introduce content and expectations or, alternatively, to provide active learning opportunities for learners to discuss and apply their knowledge and understanding of content viewed at home. The home-based activities may introduce learners to new content or may extend, support or reinforce classroom learning. This model can facilitate the differentiation of content and learning activities.

The Enriched Virtual Model differs from the Flipped Classroom Model because learners seldom meet face-to-face with their teachers every weekday whereas they do with the Flipped Classroom Model. It differs from a fully online course because face-to-face learning sessions are required. Picciano, Dziuban and Graham also distinguish the Enriched Virtual Model as a 'full school experience, not a course-by-course model' (2013, p. 295) as other approaches to blended learning, such as the À la Carte Model, would advocate.
