To support the successful implementation of the New Teacher Induction Program at Peel, as well as provide mentorship by hosting pre-service teachers, each school administrator(s) will designate a Mentor Lead. (Note: This is not intended to be a shared position).
A Mentor Lead is a teacher leader who meets the following Criteria:
Demonstrates strong leadership skills
Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing professional learning
Builds positive relationships with colleagues, students, families, and community members
Possesses strong organizational skills
Is committed to devoting time to lead others and support and coordinate mentor and host teacher pairings with new teachers and teacher candidates, and will remain committed to the role for the duration of the current school year

A Mentor Lead may take part in the followingResponsibilities:
Participates in training through the NTIP / Side by Side (will be provided release time when possible, to coordinate and support mentoring within the school)
Assists in the matching of mentors / associate teachers with new teachers and teacher candidates
Provides orientation to the school to new teachers and teacher candidates
Meets regularly with new teachers and teacher candidates to check in and determine needs
Meets with mentors to check in and determine needs
Develops and supports professional learning communities for new teachers, teacher candidates and/or mentors within their school
Acts as liaison between the NTIP/coordinator, school administrator(s), mentors and mentees
Collaborates with NTIP / Side by Side coordinator
NOTE: If the school does not have any NTIP teachers currently on staff, the Mentor Lead will still serve an important purpose in welcoming new staff and occasional teachers to the school. It is also important to remember that an NTIP LTO teacher may join the staff at any time throughout the year. This role is opportunity for teacher leaders to gain leadership experience and build professional networks with other Mentor Leads outside of their school.
