Our Fall 2022 Practicum year begins the week of Sept 12th. Students are placed from September until the end of April with the same agency.
Students will submit a Field Site Confirmation form to their supervisor to be signed and this confirms the placement on the college’s end.
Students are required to complete 21 hours a week with the agency, so when you are agreeing to take a student, you are agreeing that you can provide 21 hours a week of CYC related work (this can include planning, admin work, etc but the majority should be working with young people and/or families).
Students will attend 13 weeks of practicum in the Fall semester (273 hours) and 14 weeks in the Winter semester (294 hours). Students placed at the school board will switch their reading week in the winter semester to mirror march break.
Students require a minimum of 30 minutes of supervision weekly, this will be documented by the student and signed by the supervisor.
Students are required to keep track of their own hours and have their supervisors sign off on them.
Supervisors will be required to review students learning contracts and sign and complete an evaluation each semester.
Students do not need to be supervised by a CYC, however the supervisor needs to understand the CYC role.
CYC students are to be placed in grades 1 and higher.
