Supporting New Teachers & Teacher Candidates

The Peel District School Board (PDSB) prides itself on its commitment to providing rewarding practicum experiences to student teachers from various Faculties of Education across Ontario.  While providing a solid base of learning, certain requirements are expected from both the associate and student-teacher. The following is a brief overview to ensure these partnerships are impactful, valuable, and a wonderful overall experience.

In addition, support provided to new teachers as they begin their teaching careers in the Peel District School Board is critical for future success in education for both the educator and the students. Mentoring new teachers leads to increased teacher retention, increased confidence and efficacy in new teachers, and also has a positive impact on student success and achievement.

You will find that this resource is an great overview of what the Board feels is essential in creating a welcoming environment and a successful experience for New Teachers, Teacher Candidates, NTIP Mentors, Associate Teachers, and the students in your school and classrooms.

This is an opportunity to give back.  Each teacher at the PDSB was once a teacher candidate, mentored by a host teacher and school community.  As such, these New Teachers and Teacher Candidates that you support will be the future educators at the Board.
