The Outreach and Technical Assistance Network site is specifically designed for Adult Educators of all different kinds of subjects to learn more about tech and how to use it in their teaching. They have face-to-face training, online workshops, an annual symposium and much more. Check out their website and find a class to try.
GCF Global/GCF Learn Free is maintained by the Goodwill Community Foundation. This site has multiple video learning modules to help anyone getting familiar with technology, or updating their current tech knowledge, and all of this training is free. Check out their list of topics for more info.
Screencastify is an extension you can add to Google Chrome for free. If you want to make short videos of your computer screen or yourself filmed from your computer or a combination of the two, this is a great tool to use. To use it, go to Google Chrome and click the extensions symbol and choose Manage Extensions to find it. To make videos longer than 5 minutes you must pay for their premium service, but under 5 minutes is still free.
Quizlet.com is a free interactive study tool for students; teachers pay an annual fee, but students can still sign up for a free account. This site has thousands of study sets of words for different uses, and works in multiple languages. Create your own study sets for vocabulary or browse for tools already created on this site. Not just for language study, this tool can be used in any class where you are learning new words or concepts. Has a free smartphone app as well.
Remind.com is a great free tool for communicating with your students, allowing them to choose to get messages from you or send to you via email or text (or both), no matter how you send your messages out, and keeping everyone's phone numbers anonymous.
If you are looking for a digital presentation product that isn't PowerPoint or Google Slides, you can try one of the web-based presentation programs now available, such as Canva.com, a design tool that's great for creating presentations. It has a free level and more advanced versions as well.
More alternatives to PowerPoint or Google Slides include these other web-based presentation products, all with basic free levels, some with varying levels of cost for specific advanced features: Visme, Prezi, Haiku Deck.
Kahoot.com is an interactive classroom gaming tool where you can create games and tools for your students or use thousands of existing games and tools as well. Works great with smartphones, too. It has a free level and also paid levels of membership.
