Provided classroom technology at Greendell in most classrooms consists of:
a document camera / to project printed pages (or other objects)
a digital display (on the wall)
a built-in sound system
a Dell PC computer
Usually, the computer is kept in a locked cabinet and the other technology is not locked up.
Get the computer out of the locked cabinet (office staff should have a key if you don’t)
find the power cord for the computer (may be in the cabinet or already on the desk)
plug in the power cord to the computer. The computer will work without it, but may turn off the screen frequently and may run out of power.
the computer connects to the system using an HDMI connection.
The classroom PC computers do not have a built-in HDMI port, so you must use the adapter that looks like this:
Plug the adapter into the computer and plug the other end into the cord that comes from the wall.
Turn on the computer and log in using the name and password you were given.
On the wall, press the ON button. When the ON button glows red, the system is on.
On the document camera, press the power button. When the blue light turns on, the document camera is on.
Now you have all systems ready to display and (just the computer) play sound
On the wall, press the HDMI 2 button (might be HDMI 1 in some classrooms)
Now anything you put under the document camera will display on the display screen.
You can use the Zoom buttons on the document camera to make the image bigger or smaller.
You can press the gray FOCUS button to make the image clearer with auto-focus.
You can press the Freeze button to freeze (and unfreeze) the image. While the image is frozen, it won’t change even if you move the paper. Be sure to unfreeze it when you want to move on.
On the wall, press the HDMI 1 button (might be HDMI 2 in some classrooms)
Whatever is on your computer screen will now display on the display screen, and if you play sound, it will come through the classroom speakers.
You cannot control your computer by touching the display screen.
If the image on the display won’t change
make sure it’s not frozen (press the Freeze button on the document camera or remote)
if you were using digital writing tools to write on the display, make sure that you’ve turned them off (press X to close the writing tools). The system won’t change the display if the writing tools are in use or the writing tools menu is open
If you accidentally press the wrong thing on the screen and change to an unfamiliar page
press the triangle icon to get the menu
press the Home icon
click HDMI 1 (it doesn’t matter if you were displaying from computer or digital camera)
Don’t adjust volume on the wall. Use the computer’s volume control. The microphones each have their own volume control.
You do NOT need to press any button on the document camera to change the display to the computer.
There are two microphones in a dock, one that you can wear around your neck and a handheld one. If you want to use one of these, take it out of the dock and turn it on.
It will take 10-15 seconds for the sound system to start receiving the sound.
You can’t adjust the microphone sound using the wall volume control. The necklace microphone has volume control on the side. The handheld microphone has volume control in the battery case.
If you have an Apple device that can project to Apple TV (including an iPhone), you can connect wirelessly to the system.
From an iPhone:
On the wall, push the button that says Apple TV. The button should glow red.
on your iPhone, open the Control Center
click the Screen Mirroring option
Choose the name of the room you are in (P-4, P-6, etc.)
Type the code that will appear on the digital screen
Now everything on your iPhone will appear on the digital screen. You can also play sound.
To stop sharing, open Control Center, click the screen mirroring option again, and click Stop Mirroring
From an Apple tablet or computer
