Step 1: Exploring Ideas
Use this website to explore the different options that you have available to you
Think about how you might align these with your SIM, passion projects, current achievement in subjects.
Teachers of English and Mathematics provide recommendations to students as to levels of study.
Step 2: Aligning SIM
All students will be assigned a staff advisor. The role of the advisor is to meet with the student to discuss their goals and interests and help construct an appropriate academic program. This is done through the Life Design learning time with their Life Design Teacher.
Students document their Preliminary subject selections with a 5 minute presentation as to how this fits into their understanding of their self.
Presentation is practiced with the student advisor.
Step 3: Application and Feedback
Students meet with a senior leader, including Principal, Head of School, Assistant Principal or Pedagogy Coaches and parents to present their presentation, and to get feedback in order to refine their subject choices.
Step 4: Submission of Initial Preferences
Students should select their preferences on the basis of teacher recommendations and in order of preference. This order indicates a student’s preference of one subject over another. Not all students will receive their most preferred as the timetable construction will be generated on the basis of ‘best fit’ for the most number of students. Preferences selected are an acknowledgement that students may be offered these courses.
Students receive online instructions and submit their initial subject choices.
This submission must be printed and signed by their parents and returned to the office.
Students can complete their online submission as soon as they receive their online username and password.
Please note that no advantage is gained by submitting selections early.
Step 5: Processing
The school will determine the subject offerings based on student demand from this process.
Students missing subject preferences will be consulted with alternative delivery where available (eg. through the School of Now)
Students missing subject preferences where there is no alternative delivery of this subject or no preferences specified that are available replacements will be consulted to select other options.
Students will be provided with a list of subjects that they are studying and the delivery method.
