Course Description:
Exploring Early Childhood is a Content Endorsed Course. This course has both practical and theoretical components. Students will develop an understanding and awareness of the growth, development and learning of young children. It provides students with an overview of development and issues within and early childhood context and the opportunity to consider these in relation to themselves, their family and community.
This course aims to develop understanding, skills, and strategies to enable students to support and foster positive growth and development in young children with whom they interact through the provision of safe, nurturing and challenging environment. Students will also become aware of learning through play and safe environments, and identify the range of services provided for young children and their families.
Topics: Exploring Early Childhood consists of the following 3 core units which must be studied -
Part A: Pregnancy and Childbirth
Part B: Child Growth and Development
Part C: Promoting Positive Behaviour
There are then 14 optional modules where one or more will be selected to study. These options will depend on student interest -

Post School Options:
This course provides a gateway for students who have an interest in a career in early childhood education, for example. pre-school teacher, primary school teacher, childcare worker, carer. This course offers initial learning experiences that can lead to further post-school study at university, TAFE or vocational training.
