Course Description
The Earth and Environmental Science course enables students to develop an appreciation and understanding of the Earth itself, the processes that shape it and the impacts that humans have on the environment.
In Year 11, students investigate plate tectonics, the energy transformations that drive climate, ocean currents and natural disasters.
In Year 12, students investigate the development of life in the biosphere, the geological timescale; and how humans manage Earth's resources. Human impacts on climate and how we can manage sustainability for the long-term benefit of our planet is also explored.
Why study this course
Are you concerned about where your food will come from in the future? Will there be more firestorms and catastrophic floods in our area? How high will the oceans rise? How will this impact me and where I can choose to live? What solutions can I be a part of to address the changing climate?
If you are concerned about any of these issues or the general state of our Earth, the only one that gives us life, then this course is definitely one for you to study. This course will help you to understand the amazing processes that are occurring on our planet every day and how they are all intertwined to give us life. A detailed understanding of how small decisions can have large and potentially harmful consequences to our current lifestyle, yet it will also arm you with information to be able to make good decisions for our Earth and be able to live a sustainable life. If you are passionate about our planet, looking after it for future generations and living a sustainable lifestyle then Earth and Environmental Science is for you.
