We are learning about the steps in the Learning Process. At SPMC we call it the learning pit.
I know the steps in the learning journey.
I understand that learning is about asking questions, building my knowledge, applying what I know and coming to a deeper understanding of concepts and ideas.
I can talk about where I am in my learning, what I gaps I have in my knowledge and the steps I need to take to get to a deeper understanding of ideas and concepts.
The Learning Pit reassures you on your learning journey. It offers encouragement during times of struggle; explains how frustration and confusion are a normal part of the learning process; and illustrates the steps that can be taken to move from surface-level knowledge to deep understanding.
Learning occurs when you step out of your comfort zone. And yet, many people are hesitant to take this step for fear of making mistakes or revealing their weaknesses.
That’s when the Learning Pit can help: to encourage and reassure learners that taking risks, asking questions, and trying new things can help them develop their abilities and deepen their understanding.
Student reflection....
Make a list of the times you've felt confused or uncertain about your learning this week.
Reasons to be in the Learning Pit
Circumstantially – You find yourself in the Learning Pit because what you are attempting is problematic or confusing in some way;
Deliberately – You are encouraged, ordinarily by a teacher or coach, into the Learning Pit to give you more opportunity to develop problem-solving habits and skills;
Willingly – You choose to be in the Learning Pit because you know that is where you learn most.

What lessons can we learn about keeping on?
Write about a time where you wanted to give up or quit. It could be in your learning or in sport or when learning an instrument.
What advice would you have given to someone who was feeling the same way you were?
What happened to make you decide to keep on keeping on?
