Week beginning - Monday 16th March 2026
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
It has been a thrilling week of discovery in EYFS! Following the "discovery" of a mysterious dinosaur egg in our classroom, the children took the initiative to write letters to an expert for help. This week, we were delighted to welcome Dr Rex Fossil in person! Dr Rex Fossil visited us to share his expertise on what preservation looks like through the eyes of a scientist. He worked alongside the children to help us understand how we can protect and save our dinosaur egg for the future. The children were captivated as he explained the careful techniques used to keep ancient evidence safe from damage. What has been most impressive this week is the children’s blossoming critical thinking. Whether they were deciding the best way to handle a "fossil" or figuring out how to keep our egg warm and safe, the children are applying their problem-solving skills with incredible enthusiasm. The children are beginning to see themselves as true researchers. They are making deep connections between the "Deep Past" of dinosaurs and the "Recent Past" of our own school and families. We are incredibly proud of how the children are leading their own learning this term.
Thank you again for your support with our first ever EYFS Easter disco! It was a huge success and the children had great fun dancing, playing games, and decorating their bonnets.
Our phonics focus has been on the vowel sounds ‘a’ and ‘e’. We are incredibly proud of how the children are now extending their writing beyond individual sounds and into full words and sentences. Please continue to encourage this progress by writing regularly with your child. Whether it’s a shopping list, a short story, or a card for a friend, practicing those 'a' and 'e' sounds in context will really boost their confidence.
In maths, we have continued our exploration of the numbers 9 and 10. The children have been busy investigating more and less, identifying what happens when we add or take away from these amounts and doubles.
Thank you for your continued support.
