Week beginning - Monday 22nd September 2025
Take a peek at all the amazing things we've been learning this week!
This week our line of inquiry led us to the idea of families being our first community group. The children enjoyed showing us pictures of their families by drawing on photo frames on big pieces of paper. They were able to show each other kindness by working alongside each other talking about similarities and differences between their family communities. Then we looked at different communities within Paddock Wood. We found out about different community groups and the roles that they have in society. Please bring in a photograph of your family to share in class. This can be one that is printed out or sent via email through the school office.
If you have a particular role in the community like a firefighter, a nurse, a vet or mechanic we would love to hear from you if you could spare a short 5-10 minutes to explain how you support and care for others.
We learnt how to compare amounts in mathematics this week. The children were able to compare quantities using key vocabulary like more, fewer and equal. You could reinforce this concept at home with something like sweets. If you are out on your travels over the weekend we would like you to collect autumnal objects like conkers, acorns and pinecones to use in our continuous provision next week.
We have now mastered the phonic sounds s,a,t, i and p. The children are working hard to hold their pencils correctly in order to write these letters. Now we have mastered these sounds we have been learning how to construct simple words like 'at, it, sat, sit' using phonic letter cards.
Phoenix
This week Rudy has been a thinker in class. He has shown our 'strive' behaviours in order to make the most out of every learning opportunity. Rudy has been able to confidently show his knowledge by answering key questions in class.
Goldings
Oliver has shone brightly this week when talking about the Smeds and the Smoos! He has shown he is a knowledgeable inquirer when sharing his thoughts aloud with such confidence and using his creative ideas to solve problems. It is such a joy to hear him explain his ideas. Keep up the great work!

Alex has been an amazing inquirer this week. He has a real passion for learning and has been intrigued by our inquiry this week into the communities we belong to. Well done Alex, keep asking lots of questions to extend your knowledge!
