Riverside ASN School is proud to be a Total Communication school. This means we use a flexible, multi-modal approach to communication that supports every learner to understand, express themselves, and engage meaningfully in school life. We recognise that communication looks different for each young person, so we value and promote all forms of communication, including speech, sign, symbols, objects of reference, visual supports, assistive technology, gesture, facial expression, and body language.

Our aim is to remove communication barriers and create an environment where every pupil can be heard, understood, and empowered. Staff are trained to use a wide range of communication strategies, ensuring that communication is accessible, consistent, and embedded throughout learning, relationships, and daily routines.
