Ever since I can remember, I have always loved to write. From school essays to silly stories in my notebook, newspaper articles, and so much more, writing has always been something I enjoyed doing. When I was younger, I would often write just for fun, and over time it became something that I realized I really cared about. Because of that, coming into high school I knew right away that I had to sign up for the newspaper class. Since then, I have grown a lot as a writer. Through journalism, I’ve learned how to write in different styles, interview people, and turn real experiences into stories that others want to read. Over the years I’ve improved not only in how I write, but also in how I think about the topics I’m covering. Writing has helped me become more confident in sharing ideas and asking questions, which are both really important parts of journalism. I’ve also learned that writing is a big part of the creative process and the art of telling a story. Whether it’s a news article, a feature story, or even a sports recap, the goal is always to tell the story in a way that informs and interests the reader. Being able to tell a story is one of the most important skills in all forms of journalism, and no matter what type of media you’re working with, it almost always comes back to strong writing.
This pdf doccument is one of our scripts for The Season that I write for our staff. This one specifically was from our episode for the OHS football team's overtime victory over Collierville. In each script, it shows the layout of the episode and all of the segments. Under each segment give my staff more guidenece on what the segment should look like. For each football game that consists of which moments to highlight from each drive and in what order it should be in. Many times this even includes adding specific clips that I want to see during that play. The bolded italacized words represent the narration that will be added at the end letting the editor know to leave openings in the game where we can add in the narration. Script writing is a crucial role of the process of making The Season as it allows the editing to go by quicker. Once we have our layout writen down, we know exactly what each segment should look like. When we're on such a short time frame like we are for football episodes, getting episodes out efficiently is so important.
