As an editor of The Charger newspaper, it is my job to edit all the articles before they go into the paper. After the staff writer finishes writing, they send it to their beat editors for the first round of editing. They are then sent to me or our other editor, Ellie, for the second round of editing. Editing does come with many challenges as the style of writing in newspaper is much different than all other styles. Although, I do love my role in the newspaper and always am happy to edit any articles that come my way.

This picture on the right shows three articles that articles that I printed out and edited. I found that when I print out the pages, the writer actually learns what needs to be improved instead of just clicking the check button on their computer. I've also noticed that it encourages the writer to come and ask me why I marked things on their paper to once again help them learn from their mistakes.
This spreadsheet is our schedule I made for our fall sports production days from this summer. This shows our staff what time each team is coming and what set they will be working for that team. Having this is crucial to the process as it helps our atheletes, coaches and our staff stay organized while also helping the day go by smoother. This way all of our staff members know what they are doing before we get there so we're ready to go from the start.
These two spreadsheets showcase the timesheet that I make for every episode of The Season. Each episode comes with a lot of planning, and this is an essential part of that process. I send this out to all of our editors for that episode and it shows them what they will be working on, how long it needs to be, and occasionally when it needs to be done. Not only does it help my other staff members, it also helps me stay on track and keep everything in the right place.
Outside of journalism, I was elected as this year’s Student Body President. In this role, I have the opportunity to lead my school in a variety of ways. While planning pep rallies, dances, and other school events is a significant part of the position, my responsibilities extend far beyond event coordination. I serve as a bridge between the student body and the administration, working to ensure that students’ voices are heard and that their ideas are considered in school decisions. Through this experience, I have also strengthened my ability to collaborate effectively. I work closely with our senior class president, Kate, and together we strive to lead OHS in a positive direction. Our goal is to create an environment where students feel engaged, valued, and proud to be part of the Oxford High School community.

In this picture, I am leading a session at the annual Mississippi Scholastic Press Association spring convention that our staff attends each year. Last year, I presented a session titled “An Overview of Sports Journalism in High School,” where I talked about how we cover athletics at OHS. During the session, I shared the different ways we report on sports, including writing game recaps, creating social media content, and producing coverage that keeps our community updated on our teams. One of my favorite parts about leading these sessions is getting the chance to share my experiences with student journalists from schools all across Mississippi. It’s really cool to talk with other students who are passionate about journalism and help them learn new ideas they can take back to their own school programs. Being able to help other students grow and improve their publications is something that I really enjoy. This year will actually be the third year that I have led a session at the convention, and I am very excited to do it again. Each year I get the opportunity to meet new students and hopefully inspire them to get more involved in journalism at their schools. I always look forward to attending the convention and leading a session because it is such a unique experience that not many high school students get to have. It’s something I’m very grateful for, and it has been one of the most rewarding parts of being involved in our journalism program.
To prepare for our 2025-26 production days, I led our staff in creating sets for our athletes to take pictures and videos in. One of those sets was themed as an old alley way that had been graffitied to match the OHS theme. I came up with the idea to have a hallway set that our players could walk through as we took their video. However, at the time I didn't really what I wanted it to look like, so I brought the idea to our staff to see if we could find a theme that we liked. We spent months drawing, designing, brainstorming and trying to make any progress we could. We also had to consider that we were working on a very tight budget so anything that we did, we had to be mindful about how much it would cost while also making sure it didn't look cheap and thrown together. Eventually a few weeks before our first production day, I came up with the grafitii idea. I drew some sketches and shared them with our staff to see what they thought. Thankfully, everyone loved the plan and we got to work as soon as we could. As a staff we aren't super crafty and artistic so we knew painting would be a challenge. We spent weeks at my house drawing, painting, and building making sure that it looked perfect. While leading my staff this summer on this project, we were able to grow closer together and learn more baout each other during that time. It was a super fun experience and I'm so glad that we were able to do this project together. To the right is a short video showing the entire process of putting together this set for production days. Below I have attached a video representing the final project.
