In the complex world of athletics, many sports and activities tend to get overlooked by some of the bigger sports. This year, I wanted to help change the way people view the sports world by covering as many sports as I could. I also provided the opportunity for every athletic program at OHS a chance to be a part of their very own production day. This allowed every sport the chance to have their pictures and videos taken while representing their sport. Those pictures would soon be showcased across the entire Oxford Community in our many different forms of media at Oxford. It was so much fun to be able to step out of my comfort zone and cover those other sports that don't always get as much attention as football and basketball.
Listed above are two episodes of The Season that gave a behind the scenes look at our OHS spirit squads. I felt that a lot of their hard work went unnoticed and decided that it was meant to be showcased to everyone.
While my main area of expertise is sports journalism, I edit all articles before being published in The Charger. It is very important to me that we cover all ethnicities, genders, and interests in our school and community. As I edit these I do my best to ensure that each piece is written respectfully and is engaging to the audience. My hope in our newspaper is that is a place where everyone can go find a story to read that they relate to.
To the left is an article I wrote about our school's first ever Festival of Nations. The festival recognized countries from all around the world with different booths. Each booth shared something intresting about their country. Many gave out food, flyers, and had traditional games from their country. This event was very eye opening and inspiring to me. Since then, this event has become a staple in the Oxford community every year. It continues to become more popular every year and teach people more and more about countries they are unfamiliar with. It is such an honor to get to volunteer at this event each year and get to help out in any way I can. Getting the oppotunity to write about the start was an even greater experience and something that I will always be grateful for.
