In this assignment, I worked with my team to create and present the AnchorGuard Umbrella System, a new beach umbrella design that keeps people safe. We were given the task of finding a real-world problem and engineering a solution to fix it. My team chose to focus on beach umbrella safety because thousands of people get hurt every year when umbrellas fly away in the wind. We did research on why current beach umbrellas are dangerous, looked at existing products that tried to solve the problem, and studied what materials and designs would work best. After collecting data and testing different ideas, we designed the AnchorGuard System to anchor umbrellas securely in the sand. I worked on researching the problem, helping design our solution, and presenting our findings to the class. I felt confident about our research and design, and our teamwork made the presentation go smoothly. In the end, our project showed how engineering can solve everyday safety problems.
This assignment showed me I have a lot of room to grow as a writer. The biggest issue was that I only wrote four paragraphs instead of the required five, which shows I didn't pay close enough attention to the instructions. My teacher commented that I was "lacking details with stronger analysis," meaning my writing was too basic and didn't go deep enough into the topic. I made general statements instead of using specific examples and strong evidence from the articles. My analysis was surface-level and didn't examine how technology affects Gen Z in enough detail. If I could redo this, I would write all five paragraphs, include more quotes and evidence from sources, develop deeper analysis with better reasoning, and spend more time connecting my ideas together. This assignment taught me that just completing the work isn't enough I need to push myself to provide detailed, well-supported analysis to truly demonstrate my understanding.
In this assignment, I was tasked with creating an annotated bibliography for my beach umbrella safety research project. I had to find and analyze seven different sources using APA citation format, including at least one primary and one secondary source. My research covered topics like injury statistics, wind-resistant design, anchoring mechanisms, and how sand interacts with anchor systems. For each source, I wrote a summary explaining what the article discussed and how I would use it in my capstone project. I included a variety of sources such as government safety warnings, engineering journals, product reviews, and research papers. This assignment helped me organize my research and prepare for writing my full paper. In the end, I received a strong grade on this authentic assessment.
This assignment was a major failure for me. I turned it in two weeks late and got a 50, which I deserved. The work I submitted was poor quality and showed I didn't put in real effort. My second journal entry about technology was especially bad—I kept repeating the same sentences over and over without adding anything new. It looked rushed and incomplete because that's exactly what it was. My first entry was better, but the second one proved I waited until the last minute. If I could redo this, I would turn it in on time, stop repeating myself and add real analysis, actually use the reading strategies properly, and put in honest effort instead of rushing. This taught me that waiting until the last minute always leads to bad grades and that I'm only hurting myself when I don't take assignments seriously from the start.
In this assignment, I was tasked with creating a detailed outline for a research paper about how anime became mainstream in Western culture. I had to organize my ideas into an introduction, multiple body paragraphs with research points, and a conclusion. My outline covered topics like the history of anime starting with shows like Astro Boy and Dragon Ball Z, how celebrities helped make anime popular, the shift from TV broadcasts to streaming services, and how smartphones changed the way people watch anime. For each body paragraph, I planned to include quotes, citations, explanations, and connections between different research points. This assignment helped me organize my thoughts and structure my paper before writing it. The outline showed me how to build a strong argument with evidence and smooth transitions between ideas. In the end, this planning process prepared me to write a well-organized research paper.
In this assignment, I read an article about how technology affects students and teachers, then answered questions about it. I summarized different parts, found quotes, and explained the main argument about limiting technology in classrooms. I completed most of the work and understood the basic ideas, but my answers were too short and missing details. I didn't finish everything I left some questions blank or incomplete. If I could improve this, I would write longer, more detailed answers, finish all the questions, and better explain how the quotes connected to the main point. This taught me that just understanding something isn't enough I need to show my thinking with complete, detailed answers.
