This is an 8th grade elective offered in the SPRING. Intro to Art and Art 2 are pre-requisites for the Showcase class. Students should demonstrate good work ethic and motivation in their intro and art 2 classes. This is a painting intensive course where the students research a master painter and develop skill in painting through hands on practice. A drawing portfolio (subject matter chosen by student) is also completed through this course.
Dear Parents,
Thankful to Prop 28, most of the supplies for this course are covered! Below, I have a list of supplies that the students may want to bring in for personal use. These will be kept in a designated drawer for your student.
REQUIRED:
Sketchbook** (They can use their old sketchbook- We use at most 20 pages). Any size is fine. I recommend a 70lb. paper quality or higher.
RECOMMENDED (But not required):
Paint brushes (Mrs. Cadle has the class set, but you may bring in your own)
Micron pens/ any other specialty materials for drawing prompts: These will be kept in your personal drawer and only used by YOU. Some students like to bring in watercolor sets, alcholol markers, mechanical pencils, etc.
Graphaids, a local art store in the area, has been extremely helpful by providing a vendor source where all items can be found at ONE place. They have also agreed to give all Medea Creek Art students a 30% discount (on non-sale items and 10% on books). You may purchase your supplies wherever you wish. This vendor is provided for your convenience in response to parent requests for a vendor source.

Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to a wonderful semester with my artists.
Also, some parents have inquired about making a donation to the art department for additional general supplies. It pleases me greatly to know that there are patrons of art here at MCMS! If you wish to do so, please send a check to class with your child made payable to MCMS-OPUSD with ART DONATION marked in the memo line. The will be logged and forwarded to the office.
*These materials are considered a donation. If you are unable to purchase ART SUPPLIES for any reason, please contact Mrs. Cadle by Friday January 12th, so that I am able to coordinate supplies for your child. *** Education Code § 17551
Every year, ONE ARTIST from the showcase class is selected to receive the "Art Award". Anyone in the showcase class can submit work to be considered! Portfolios will be assessed by the art department at the high school for craftsmanship, expertise with a variety of media, and innovation/experimentation with subject/media. If you are interested, submit the following by Friday May 2nd. *Late submissions will not be accepted. Email Mrs. Cadle if you are submitting work. She will share a google slide doc with you in order to organize and share your "portfolio".
