Image Transfer

Images can be transferred between devices used to acquire still images and a computer in different ways.

USB Cable

You can transfer images directly from your device to a computer using a USB Cable. The cable plugs into the device at one end and the computer at the other.

Memory Card

A memory card is a type of storage media used to store data, including photos and videos. Memory cards vary in the amount of storage space available this is usually based on the type of memory card used. SD (Secure digital) cards are most commonly used in digital cameras and Mini or micro SD card used in smartphones.

Card Reader

Because of the different sizes of memory card, a card reader is needed, this is a hardware device for reading and writing data. Some card readers have multiple slots for different cards and media.

Images can also be transferred wireless using:

  • Blue Tooth-used for exchanging data between devices over a short distance/range, it uses radio waves to transmit information.
  • WiFi-is a wireless networking technology that as with Bluetooth uses radio waves to provide high speed internet and network connections.
  • Cloud Storage-allows data to be stored on the internet, a provider manages and operates the data storage that can be accessed anytime, anywhere with access to the internet. Examples that you might use are google drive and Dropbox.
