Heritage students: students listen and view a Japanese language news video on their own laptops while answering multiple choice comprehension questions. Students are marked on demonstration of aural comprehension.

2) Writing Test: students write two greetings conversations to practise introductions informally and formally. Each conversation should be 30-70 words long. Students are marked on the message conveyed. While use of hiragana is encouraged to use wherever possible, it is fine to use romaji to write texts at this time for beginners. For Heritage, they are encouraged to use kanji  as appropriate.
