GCSE English Language involves two examinations, in which you will analyse a variety of non-fiction and fiction texts and create your own texts, with a variety of purposes.
Paper 1: Explorations in creative reading and writing – 1 hour and 45 minutes
Paper 2: Writers’ viewpoints and perspectives – 1 hour and 45 minutes
GCSE English Literature involves two examinations; all examinations are closed text.
Paper 1: Shakespeare and 19th Century Novel – 1 hour and 45 minutes
Paper 2: Modern Novel and Poetry – 2 hours and 15 minutes

You will not receive an A*-G grade, you will be assessed using the new statutory grading system of 1-9: 1 being approximately a G grade, 8 being approximately an A*, and 9 showing exemplary achievement.
All careers require good reading and writing skills, and most will require at least a Grade 5 in one of your English GCSEs.
