GCSE Drama is an exciting, inspiring and practical course. The course promotes involvement in and enjoyment of Drama, as performers and/or designers. Students will also attend live theatre performances allowing them to become informed and thoughtful audience members. By taking part in all these activities, learners will also develop a range of essential life skills which will help them succeed in any career they choose.
If you choose to study for a GCSE in Drama, you must be prepared to:
· Act in front of an audience
· Complete design tasks (set design, costume, lighting & sound)
· Work as part of a group on a regular basis.
· You must also be prepared to complete written activities that are an essential part of this course.
· Contribute to class discussions and workshops
· How drama is created, including all the acting and stagecraft skills that are required to put on a high quality piece of Drama (this doesnt read well) All the acting and stagecraft skills required to create and perform a high quality piece of Drama ?
· How to create & develop a character and then play this character in a performance
· Life and social skills that are highly valued in any walk of life including teamwork and confidently presenting yourself in public

· How to devise a piece of theatre

Component 1 – Devised Theatre: 40%
· Devised group performance of a piece of Drama made up by you from a stimulus, in the style of a famous Drama practitioner (approx. 10 mins Acting or Design skill)
· Portfolio of Evidence created/collected through the process (900 words broken up into 4 sections)
· Written Evaluation (1hr 30min timed essay)
Component 2 – Scripted Theatre: 20%
· Scripted group performance marked by an external examiner (Approx.10mins Acting or Design skill)
Component 3 – Interpreting Theatre: 40%
· Written examination at the end of the course on performances you have been to see live and a play script you have studied in class.
Choosing GCSE Drama allows you to access jobs in the Performing Arts industry such as:
