Enrollment for 2025-2026 is now open!
Every home address in Oklahoma is assigned to a set of elementary, middle, and high schools. Students attend the assigned schools unless their families apply for and are approved for transfers to different schools in their own or other Oklahoma school districts.
Transfer requests are considered in the order in which they are received, as directed by state law and board policy. Before applying, check:
Families are responsible for transportation to and from school for students attending on a transfer
Use the School Locator Tool to check for your assigned OKCPS school
If your child has ever attended an Oklahoma public school, contact the school or district for the Oklahoma State Testing Number, a 10-digit number beginning with “100...” You will need the number for the transfer application.
For more information, review:
Oklahoma State Department of Education’s Parents Guide to Student Transfers
If you still have questions, call the Transfer Specialists listed below.
Students who participate in Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) OSSAA-sanctioned activities must abide by the organization’s eligibility requirements. Activities include competitions in sports, music, speech & debate, academic bowl, and esports. Families are responsible for knowing how to transfer and remain eligible.
Complete the transfer application choosing the correct school year. Complete an application for each student in a family asking for a transfer.
Transfer requests are not automatically approved. Students remain enrolled in their current school until the district can request and review records to determine the student’s eligibility for transfer. State law allows up to 30 days for transfer notification during the current school year.
There are three reasons in Oklahoma law why a student’s transfer may be denied:
Capacity - Is there room in the requested school and grade level, or in a program to meet any specific student needs?
Attendance - Does the student have more than 10 unexcused absences per semester for the last school year?
Behavior - Does the student’s behavior record exceed the criteria for transfer? Multiple behavior referrals or suspensions may be the reason a transfer is denied.
Transfer status notifications will be sent by email.
Transfers requested by April 15 of 2026 for the 2026-2027 school year will be notified by email about their transfer status by May 15.
Transfers requested after April 15 of 2026 for the 2026-2027 school year may be notified as late as the beginning of September when final school capacity is established.

Families may apply for a transfer for the current school year at any time during the year.
Families can also apply for a transfer for the upcoming school year beginning on January 1st, 2026.
All families will need to provide their students' State Testing Number, which can be obtained by contacting their current school. If the student has never been in an Oklahoma public school, a State Testing Number is not required.
Families with a child in foster care or on active-duty military status will need to provide documentation verifying the situation.
If you apply for a transfer during the current school year, you will receive an email notification within 30 days.
For 2026-2027 transfers requested during the Spring transfer window (January 1 - April 15) for the upcoming school year, you will be notified by May 15.
Transfer requests are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Each student, even siblings, needs their own transfer application, and they will be reviewed separately. If the requested school and grade are full, the student may be placed on a waiting list.
Incomplete transfer applications won’t be considered.
Yes, certain priorities are taken into account:
Students in foster care, living with a family that has a student on a transfer to the requested school
Students with a parent/legal guardian on full-time active-duty status
Students with a parent/legal guardian working for the OKCPS district
Students with a sibling already on an approved transfer to the requested school
In-District Students Only: Students who attended the school site the previous year
State law and district policy allow children of employees to transfer into the district, regardless of capacity. Behavior and attendance records still matter, and all employees must complete a transfer application.
Your child’s 10-digit STN or State Testing ID can be found in the Parent Portal on your student's report card or the transcript.
To request your child’s STN, please email studentservices@okcps.org with a picture of the parent's ID, the student’s name, date of birth, and household phone number.
Transfer requests can be denied for various reasons, including:
Capacity - If the requested school grade level is full. Capacities for the current school year are posted on the first day of January, April, July, and October.
Behavior - If the student has a record of discipline issues described in Oklahoma Statute 70 O.S. § 24-101.3.
Attendance - If the student has a history of unexcused absences described in Oklahoma Statute 70 O.S. § 8-101.2 (B)(2).
Note for students with an IEP - If the school cannot provide services as per the Individualized Education Plan or if the program is full, your transfer may be denied.
If your transfer request is denied, you can appeal the decision by completing the online Oklahoma City Public Schools Appeal Form that was included in your denial email. All appeals go before the OKCPS Board of Education for reconsideration.
No, you must attend in person to request a transfer since FCOA is a semester-long commitment. You can request a transfer at the end of the winter semester to start attending in person in the Spring or for the upcoming school year during the Spring transfer window.
If you moved after the first day of school, you can continue at the same school for the rest of the school year, as allowed by board policy and state law. If you want to continue beyond the current school year, you must request a transfer during the Spring transfer window.
If you have moved into the OKCPS district, you don't need to submit a transfer application to enroll in your assigned school. You can complete an enrollment application at www.okcps.org/enroll or visit your school in person for assistance.
If your child goes to an OKCPS school and you have moved to a new area within OKCPS, and you want them to switch to a different school, tell their current school that you plan to withdraw them. Bring proof that you live in the new school's area when you go to the new school. Do not fill out a transfer application or another enrollment form.
Application schools manage their own decisions based on a combination of students’ test scores, attendance, auditions, grades, and/or recommendations. Visit www.okcps.org/applicationschools or contact them directly for their application process. When students are approved to attend application schools, our registration team enrolls them in the appropriate schools.
The First Choice Online Academy manages its own applications. Visit www.okcps.org/onlineacademy or contact them directly for the application process.
Enrollment in our alternative education schools (such as Emerson North, Emerson South, or Putnam Heights) is referral-based. Talk to your child's school counselor for more information.
