Embracing the Winter Fun at St. Luke Nepean
Dear St. Luke Nepean Parents & Guardians,
We are now in the full swing of winter, and it is wonderful to see our school yard transformed into a snowy playground! At St. Luke Nepean, we believe that fresh air and outdoor play are essential for our students' well-being and learning.
To make sure everyone stays safe and warm while enjoying the season, we kindly ask for your help in ensuring your child comes to school prepared for the elements. A warm coat, snow pants, boots, hats, and waterproof mittens make a world of difference in keeping our students comfortable during recess.
Our classes are truly taking advantage of the beautiful Ottawa winter! From building snow forts to enjoying our sledding hill, there is so much joy to be found in the snow. We want every child to be able to participate in these fun activities without getting chilled.
A few quick winter reminders:
Label everything: Mittens and hats often find their way to the Lost and Found—labels help them return home!
Extra socks: Packing a spare pair of socks in your child’s backpack is always a great idea for those extra-slushy days.
Safety first: Our staff monitors the weather daily to ensure temperatures are safe for outdoor play according to board guidelines.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school community warm, active, and happy!
Warmly,
Ms Myers & Ms. Wallace
United In Black
Monday January 19th is the OCSB United in Black Day (Previously Black Shirt Day). Students and staff are encouraged to wear Black to show our community is united against racism and discrimination. Classes will be participating in learning experiences and discussions around Martin Luther King Jr. and anti-racism to make this day meaningful.
Safe Arrival App
This fall our school started using the SafeArrival to report student absences. SafeArrival is designed to make it easier, faster, and more convenient for families to report absences and late arrivals.
With SafeArrival, there’s no need to call the school and leave a message. Instead, you can quickly and securely report your child’s absence in one of three ways:
Using the SM Home App: Download and install the SM Home app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Online: Visit home.schoolmessenger.ca.
Phone: Call the toll-free number 1-844-478-2598 and follow the prompts.
Further detailed instructions are available on the OCSB website.

The next School Council meeting is planned for Tuesday, January 20th, at 5:30 p.m. This Parent Council will be virtual. Please click here if you would like to attend.
