Mission: In our math classrooms, we expect students to be engaged in the eight Standards for Mathematical Practices and to master the learning targets set forth by the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. Teachers will adhere to the eight Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices laid out by the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics.
Vision: Upon graduation we recognize students may continue their education at a tech school or university or enter the workforce. When students graduate from Oconto Falls High School, our vision is that all students will be college and career ready in math and will exhibit skills of 21st Century learners. To move towards fulfilling this vision, the math department's initiatives for the academic year are as follows:
Increase student communication skills by infusing literacy, specifically writing for reasoning, in all classrooms.
Fine-tune learning targets and assessments.
Integrate more technology into the classroom.
We also seek to exemplify the six NCTM guiding principles for school mathematics.
