Can students move faster through the math curriculum?
The high school math department believes students should deeply learn math content and should not be rushed through material. In certain circumstances students may show a deep understanding of the material and may be ready to move forward at a different pace than the traditional grade-level pace. In these cases, acceleration opportunities are available to students.

High School Opportunity: Doubling-up in math classes in order to take Calculus senior year
Students who are not on pace to take calculus during their senior year would take Geometry and Algebra 2 at the same time during sophomore year. This is the math department's recommendation because of the sequencing of course content throughout all high school courses.
Students who are interested in this option should contact their math teacher or guidance counselor.
Middle School Opportunity: 8th Grade Algebra 1
Middle School Opportunity: 8th Grade Algebra 1
Policy: Per School Board policy (adopted June 13, 2016),
- Students who take Algebra 1 in 8th grade will receive a high school elective credit that will count towards the student's high school graduation credit total. This credit does not count towards the three math credits required for high school graduation
- A Pass or Fail will be given as a grade and will reflect on the student's transcript.
- The grade received will not count towards the high school grade point average.

Policy: 8th grade students who are transported to the high school to take Advanced Geometry will...
- receive a high school math credit that counts towards the student's high school graduation math credit total.
- receive a letter grade that will count towards the student's high school grade point average.
