Digital Learning may occur on days when schools must be closed due to inclement weather, natural disasters, or other public health care concerns. Please see information below to keep updated on assignments and school information regarding closures and other pertinent information.
Due to the recent closing of OCHS beginning on March 16-30th, I have created several resources on google classroom and itslearning for students to continue their education in our period at home. Please see the link to our class remind account below for close communication with myself as needed. I have also included information regarding how class will work during the next two weeks. Thanks!
Dear Members of the Oconee County Schools Community,
Oconee County Schools has been closely monitoring coronavirus (COVID-19) with guidance from the CDC, Georgia Department of Public Health, Oconee County Health Department, Oconee County Emergency Management Agency, and Georgia Department of Education. As the situation has continued to change rapidly, our top priority remains the health and safety of our school community.
This afternoon, Governor Brian Kemp issued a “call to action” and asked school leaders to consider closing for two weeks to limit the spread of this virus. While there are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Oconee County, in the greater interest of public health, OCS will be closed for two weeks beginning Monday, March 16 and re-opening Monday, March 30. During this closing, there will be no extracurricular activities, sports, school events, or field trips. As additional information and guidance are provided, updates will be shared.
Over this period, schools and buses will continue to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected using COVID-19 approved cleaners. We ask our families to wash backpacks, coats, and jackets as soon as possible as well.
Your child(ren)’s teachers and principals will be sending out information regarding digital and distance learning in the near future. Information about COVID-19 will continue to be posted at oconeeschools.org/COVID19.
Especially in this uncertain time, we appreciate our community for their continued support. Please take the necessary precautions to keep yourself, your families, and the broader community safe.
Sincerely,
Jason L. Branch
Superintendent
Hello,
I am sure you have heard the news by now that Oconee Schools will be closed beginning on Monday, March 16th until March 30th due to the recent outbreaks of the coronavirus. I think I can speak on behalf of most of the teachers at the high school by saying that this was relatively unexpected and has taken us a little bit of a surprise. I wanted to provide some clarity on what to expect for the next few fews in my class(s).
As of now, I plan to make sure Itslearning and our google classroom pages are updated with our assignments. Currently, there is a link on the itslearning landing page to the folder in google classroom. I plan to make a folder in Itslearning with the same information that will appear in our google classroom page.
We use google classroom almost everyday in class (had a tough experience with Itslearning while on maternity leave last semester), so I am hoping that as far as knowing where assignments are and how to operate them will be familiar at this point. If for some reason you can't figure out how to submit an assignment, you can always send it through email or share it with me if it was made with google suite.
This morning, I went ahead and put together a class remind 101 in an effort to provide some quicker communication with students and parents. I have included the link to that remind below, but you should have also gotten an email invitation. While you can still email me anytime, I don't get email notification on my cell phone (to protect my own sanity) during the day, so this should provide for a quicker response time on my end.

Besides what is above, we do not know much information on how the school system will be moving forward with spring break or the remainder of the school year. We have also not heard from our region FFA staff about upcoming events, but at this point in time all extracurricular activities are suspended as well per the message from Dr. Branch you should have received last night (see here for more information https://www.oconeeschools.org/COVID19). I have not heard from our CTAE director yet on how we are to proceed with these events, but will let you know as soon as I hear something.
Lastly, I wish you the best in this unexpected and unpredictable venture. I know this can be a scary situation, but I hope that each of you will use it as a time to help others and seek ways to find where you can make a difference. This provides for an excellent opportunity to show kindness and compassion for our neighbors and friends. I hope that you are able to spend some time with your family (I am pretty excited to be spending some extra time with my 8 month old) and can find hope in the fact that we are all experiencing this together.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me during our two weeks out. I will get back with you as soon as I am able. Stay safe and we will see you soon!
-Mrs. B
